Unakite was first discovered in 1874 in the Unakas Mountains of South/North Carolina, USA. It is now also found in Brazil, South Africa and other countries. Unakite belongs to the main Jasper family, and is a metamorphic composite of granite, pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote and clear quartz. It has a Moh hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the scale.
It is best known as a healing stone of long duration, a slow-moving influence facilitating gradual elimination of toxic substances, allowing the body, especially the heart to find balance and heal. "It helps one unearth and release the bonds of old emotional wounds in a way that avoids shock and trauma. It supports the purging, over a period of one to two years of many toxic energies and substances from the cellular level of the body." It helps one to release negative emotions that can cause health problems to the body (especially the heart) and the habitual thought patterns that can cause the problems.
"Unakite teaches patience and persistence and reminds one that anything worth having is worth waiting for. Unakite is a stone for true spiritual seekers who wish to hold steadfast to their chose path." ---Robert Simmons from Pocked Book of Stones.
